July 20, 2011
Students with the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MD) will visit Texas Orthopedic Hospital on July 8 and July 21, 2011.
This invaluable medical program provides high school honor students interested in medicine an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the medical field from leading institutions, practitioners, and medical researchers.
The annual Houston-Galveston NYLF/MD is an 11-day program, where students participate in a clinical site visit to area institutions and clinics. These visits provide NYLF/MD participants with a "behind-the-scenes" observation of medical practices by shadowing medical professionals during a "typical" day. The visits are designed to introduce the students to the challenges and responsibilities of providing patient care in diverse clinical settings, and to witness the use of recently developed medical techniques and technology.
Since 1995, the clinical visits at Texas Orthopedic Hospital have been a huge success due to the generous support and efforts made by the clinical staff, physicians, and administrators in the participating departments. Their dedication to each visit creates a truly memorable mentorship experience for the participants who attend the Houston-Galveston NYLF/MD.
