The Texas Orthopedic Hospital Rehabilitation Department has a fully licensed, professional staff of Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants and Physical Therapists who specialize in the care of orthopedic patients of all ages. Our goal is to return the patient, whether that be a trauma patient, an elderly patient, a child, or a high level athlete, to their maximum functional level possible.
The 10,000 square foot rehabilitation area, located on the first floor of the hospital, contains a full range of services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, aquatic therapy, and fitness and rehabilitation equipment, in an upbeat positive setting. A specially designed, multi-depth therapeutic pool and hydrotherapy equipment are used to treat injured and post-surgical patients. The private examination rooms and open treatment environment provide a unique rehabilitation experience.
The Occupational Therapy staff primarily focuses on functions of the hand and elbow, including the ability to design custom splints. They also provide instruction for activities of daily living for those recovering from hip replacement surgery; this may include bathing and dressing techniques using proper body mechanics as well as adaptive equipment.
The Physical Therapy staff provides interventions to assist patients in reaching their functional goals. The patient’s goals may range from getting in and out of bed, to running a marathon. A variety of strengthening exercises, adaptive equipment and proper body mechanics may be addressed.
